Sarah + Nick

Wedding photography from Sarah and Nick’s country affair at Wonganella Estate, Port Stephens.

Like all good modern-day love stories, it started with a swipe to the right. And four years since their first encounter on Tinder, Sarah and Nick have built their lives together, purchasing their first home  and having recently embarked on one of their greatest adventures yet…tying the knot.Their connection was fast and having both witnessed their parents happily married for close to 30 years each, marriage was something that was always on the cards for them.

“For us, I think we both decided early on that we were right for each other. It was really only a question of when it would happen,”

Although they admit to being very different from one another, Sarah and Nick believe it to be the secret to their relationship’s success. As Sarah says, “We are complete opposites and both have our own hobbies. I think that is what draws us together; we both complement each other.”Whilst their interests may vary greatly, one thing they had no trouble deciding on was their wedding location. Sarah and Nick chose Wonganella Estate, a coastal vineyard in Port Stephens, overlooking Tilligerry Creek. Wonganella Estate stood out for the couple for its rustic bush feel, reminiscent of the Hunter Valley and close location to their home. As a plus for guests attending it is also located in close proximity to Nelson Bay and Newcastle.

Taking place on October 7, the ceremony and reception were both held on the vineyard’s grounds with a stunning sunset backdrop. A country theme ran through the wedding, with the entire bridal party all wearing cowboy boots. The exquisite bouquets, which featured king proteas at the centre, were made by Sarah’s aunty and grandmother, with other wedding decorations also handmade by family members.

When it came to their wedding photography, Sarah and Nick wanted to keep things natural, and take advantage of the beautiful surrounds. For the first look, taken in the Wonganella Estate forest, we positioned Nick with his back to Sarah. Sarah walked down and tapped her groom on the shoulder. Nick, who isn’t usually an emotional kind of guy, shed a tear after seeing his beautiful bride – it’s moments like these, that make our job as wedding photographers, a real privilege.

For the pre-wedding photography, we took some portraits in the vineyards, making the most of the spectacular views. Post-wedding photography was taken at a friend’s property, ten minutes away. The property had a horse, which Sarah wanted to feature in the shots. The horse however, had other plans that mostly involved trying to eat the gorgeous bouquets! We’re pleased to report that photography prevailed and the bouquets thankfully remained unscathed. We also ensured we made most of the day’s impressive sunset, capturing the happy couple in all their newlywed glory. Sarah and Nick’s wedding at Wonganella Estate was a beautiful event from beginning to end, filled with heartfelt moments of love and sincerity.

The details of this wedding are the perfect combination of country and classic bridal. Boots were worn under dresses and the men were dressed by none other then R.M. Williams. But the bouquet stole the show. King Protea, natives and thistles made by long time florist and Sarah’s nan. My words won’t do them justice, lets hope our image do!

And when it came to asking the happy couple what marriage means to them, Sarah sums it up well: “It’s only early days, but to us, marriage means love, friendship, commitment and plans for a family.”A pretty accurate description if you ask us. Congratulations Sarah and Nick, it was such an honour and joy to be trusted with your wedding photography. Ben and I will always have a soft spot in our hearts for this day we shared with you.
